Meet Laurie

For Laurie Bowen, serving the students and families of Pleasant Valley School District is more than a career—it’s a lifelong commitment to the community she has proudly called home for more than 50 years.

Laurie grew up in Camarillo, attended PVSD schools, and graduated from Camarillo High School in 1983. She went on to earn her B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) before beginning a career in education that has spanned 33 years teaching first- and second-grade students in PVSD.

Throughout her career, Laurie has built lasting relationships with generations of students and families. She continues to love volunteering in classrooms whenever possible because she believes that being present and involved in our schools makes a difference. She is also a proud PTA member at Tierra Linda Elementary School, further strengthening her connection to the school community.

Laurie’s commitment to Camarillo began long before her teaching career. In the 1980s and 1990s, she helped run her family’s Camarillo business, giving her firsthand experience as a small-business owner and an even deeper connection to the local community. She is also a former member of the Camarillo Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and has been a member of the American Poolplayers Association (APA) for 32 years, continuing to play in pool leagues twice a week.

Her dedication to education and community service has been recognized with the City of Camarillo Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Month Award in January 2016 and the PTA Golden Oak Service Award in April 2025.

Laurie’s connection to community service runs deep in her family. Her father-in-law, Tad Bowen, was a former Mayor of Camarillo, and Laurie has seen firsthand the importance of community leadership and giving back.

At home, family is at the center of Laurie’s life. She and her husband, Scott Bowen, have been married for 32 years and are proud parents of two daughters and grandparents to five beautiful grandchildren, ages 4 to 16. When she’s not spending time with family or supporting her community, Laurie loves to relax at the beach and spend time with her dogs.

After more than three decades in the classroom—and decades deeply rooted in Camarillo—Laurie brings a unique perspective as an educator, parent, grandmother, community member, and longtime member of the PVSD community. She understands what it takes to build strong schools because she has spent decades serving PVSD students and families, advocating for children, and investing in the community she is proud to call home. She knows our schools from the inside out—and she is ready to put that experience to work for the future of every student.
